Is The Weekend Here Yet?

This week has been a real pain in the backside. Well, more like the back. My lower back started hurting Monday afternoon and has not quit. The soonest I can get to the doctor is Friday afternoon, so I've been muddling through work each day, going sloooow and leaving early in order to get home, pop some muscle relaxers and start applying heat and cold to my back. This isn't the first I've had back pain and I'm hoping that I can avoid having the muscles become too inflamed and swollen. If that happens, they'll pinch the sciatic nerve and I really will be immobile. I've had that happen twice before and I do not wish to repeat the experience.

Writing has taken somewhat of a backseat, but I have made steady, if slow, progress on my Vermin story. I also wrote a flash piece but haven't subbed it because it just seems to be missing something that I can't identify at the time. I'm torn between calling it a crappy flash story and considering it as the opening for a longer piece. I dunno. What I do know is that I'm tired of all the aches and pains.

Suddenly my back/pain doesn't seem so bad. I just have LOUSY posture. Which begs the question, why does it hurt the most in bed? I'm lying down : P

I'm with Natalie, all my back pain is borne of lousy posture. *Sits up straight at desk*.

You have my sympathy too. I hurt my back when I had a job unloading trucks for K-mart at 19. It was never the same after that. At times, all I've had to do is bend over to pick something up and then it's out. Break out into a sweat, face goes pale...I know exactly what you mean. Take it easy, avoid sudden twisting. I also found that a hard matress on the bed has helped (that and losing 20 lbs...)

you and me both. Come on over, we can lounge on the couch, eat cheese puffs, drink heavily and take muscle relaxers and pain pills. It will be a good time.

Geez, everyone is having back problems this week! I hope you get to feeling better soon. My only bout with back pain was several years ago when my dog got into the habit of jumping up on the bed to wake me up in the mornings. Since he weighed about 110 pounds, it's no wonder I threw my back out. It wasn't all that bad, but I was still miserable for about a week. I really feel for you.

Completely in touch with your pain - no empathy required.

I hope you fell better soon.
